Sabbath School

In 1853, only a few years after the first group of Sabbath-keeping Adventists was formed in Washington, New Hampshire, James White organized the first regular Sabbath School in Rochester, New York. In 1852, estimating an informal membership of about 1,000 in the state of New York, White had written a series of 19 lessons appearing in the new Youth’s Instructor.

From its inception Sabbath School has focused on four emphases that are still prominent to this day: fellowship development, community outreach, Bible study, and foreign mission. A solid balance of these elements characterizes the most vital Sabbath Schools around the world.

Based on these four emphases, from its beginning in 1853, Sabbath School membership has exploded from a handful of believers in upstate New York to an estimated 14 million today. Former General Conference President Jan Paulsen has said that Sabbath School is like breakfast. For more than 150 years it has provided the spiritual nourishment that is needed to meet the challenges that arise during the rest of the week.   Source:

Personal Ministries
.Personal Ministries is a facet of the church whose origin can be traced to the beginning of Seventh-day Adventist® history in the 1860s. It endeavors to inspire, motivate, equip, train, and mobilize all members for dynamic Christian service with the conviction that “The church of Christ is organized for service” (Ministry of Healing, p. 148) and “Every son and daughter of God is called to be a missionary; we are called to the service of God and our fellow men” (The Ministry of Healing, p. 395).

Welcome, to the Cottonwood Seventh Day Adventist web page for Sabbath School information.  We invite you to join us every Saturday morning at 9:30 to study the Bible.

During this 9:30-10:35 study time we conduct several adult classes.  Adventist's throughout North America use a lesson quarterly to guide them in their daily studies and these class members get together on Sabbath morning to discuss these lessons and share their research, thoughts and impressions.
In the large alcove of the church sanctuary, the door just to your right as you enter the main entrance, there is a class which you may enjoy. Dennis Canther, coordinator.  There is a second class in the fellowship hall, Greg Collins, coordinator.  There is a thrid class in the Manna Room next door to the pastor's office, Gores and the Quick's, coordinators.  You are welcome to attend the class of your choice.

The subject of the  current Sabbath School Lesson is "Galatians".  Next quarter we are studying "Salvation by Faith Alone in Romans"  We would love to give you a quarterly if you contact the church at (928)634-2821 or you may get the lessons on line at Introductory Info,   Individual Lessons. and Teacher's Quarterly.   For deeper study, we invite you to study the collegiate quarterly.   For more info:   Adult Sabbath School Resources
Following the Bible Study time, the classes dismiss and meet in the sanctuary for outreach and sharing time where Mission Spotlight focusing on world mission, and local outreach programs such as our church school and children's division reports are presented.

We would love to have you join us in studying God's word in the class of your choosing.  We also have a Study Group Tuesday mornings at 11 am in the church sanctuary small alcove and a Bible Study/Prayer Group that meets each Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall.
