A poet's rendering of church socials

 Hawaiian Luau
A luau on an August night
Brought islands to our town
With leis and tiki torches
and palm trees hanging round

With rice and island punch
and kabobs tasting yummy
No howly should have left
with any room in their tummy

Church family members smiled
And joy shown all around
The aloha spirit flourished
with every sight and happy sound

There were games of fun tried
by many natives of the tribe
they ducked beneath the limbo stick
and to the hula they'd subscribe

Island music filled the room
and fun was had by all
the room was filled with laughter
by those both big and small

International / Chinese Social

September we were treated well
we all had quite a night
with different looks and tastes
an International delight

From Portugal to Mexico
Enchiladas to sour kraut
Laughter and happy smiles
were bantered all about

The food tasted heavenly
from Hungary to L.A.
From Japan to Old England
What more can I say?

Games were played with fervor
And signatures were sought
for some crazy experiences
and prizes for the lucky lot

There were cakes with calories
given out on each walk
But each one had a good time
You could tell by all the talk.

Jen and family worked hard
to show us quite the sight
The room was Chinese color
and added to the night

Next month is a hay ride
Let's all plan to be there
A wonderful experience
In the crisp Autumn air.
