Present Truth -- Libya in Prophecy
.

In the early days of Adventist History, the phrase "Present Truth" was commonly used referring to truth
for the hour and for prophesy fulfillment as of a certain time.  What is present truth and what is the role of
Libya and Egypt in Bible Prophecy?  These events have fallen on the heels of major offensives in the
country of Iraq and they interelate in scripture.   Iraq in Bible times was known as Babylon
followed by the Medes (Iran) and Iraq (Persia).

Much of what is written in scripture pertaining to these countries is keyed to prophecies regarding the
rivers of the area.   The Bible mentions the waters drying up or at flood stage as an indication of the
power these nations have. Refer to Zech 10:11, Isa 8:7,8.  Of particular interest is mention of the great
River Euphrates which flows throughout Iraq and the area of ancient Babylon.  In the time of the 7 last
plaques, the Bible tells us that  "And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates;
and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared."  Rev 16:12,
prior to the battle of Armageddon.

As part of the process the nations surrounding the area move in through a series of conflicts
taking control of this region.  Daniel 11 describes the scene.   Daniel 11:43 mentions Eqypt,
Libya and Ethiopia.  Here Anti-Christ is seen "But he shall have power over the treasures of
gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians
[shall be] at his steps."

When the power is withdrawn from these nations during the plaques it brings into play the
positioning of the AntiChrist for the final conflict.   In the early days of the Christian faith,
it was one of the goals of Rome to take control of the holy places of Palestine during the
Crusades.   However, it  was the muslims who kept them in check and prevented this from
happening.  When the River Euphrates dries up referring to the power of the muslim empire,
 the Anti-Christ will move in.
And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy
mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.  Daniel 11:45
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the
children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since
there was a nation [even] to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be
delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.  Daniel 12:1
Here Michael refers to Jesus in his role as mediator.  Probation closes as the cases
are decided for all as Jesus stands up from sitting in judgement.  He declares behold
I come quickly to give every man according to his work shall be.  Rev 22:12
We see here that the nations of Libya and Egypt will play an important role in the closing events of this
earth's history.  Exactly what will transpire we do not yet know, but we need to be ready for the soon
return of our Lord and pray for the infilling of the holy spirit to have the oil needed for when the
bridegroom cometh.
